Using TK-102b GPS tracker to locate flown away quad

How to find flown-away quadrocopter? The problem is definitely actual for FPV quads which can fly away apart from pilot up to several kilometers.
As for me, any radio beacons are not so good, I think the best way to do it is to use GPS/GSM tracker. Widely known TK-102 is a good choice because of low price and wide functionality. I thought it will be ideal but...

OK, I've ordered one on aliexpress.com. Below is a couple of thoughts about this device for that persons who want to use the tracker for quad location goal as well.
First, it seems that almost all trackers on the website are not genuine and the command system for them slightly differs from original one (Xexun TK-102, TK-102-2).
Second, it is good to know pros and cons of my one (I've ordered TK-102b which is clone for Xexun TK-102-2) to be prepared for device's weird behavior.

Pros:

1. It works both in SMS mode (you have to call on it to receive sms with GPS location and link to Google maps) and GPRS mode (the device constantly reports its location to special service so you can track it with small lag using website).
2. It is really small and lightweight. The weight is about 50 g, that's really great for carrying it on a quad.
3. Battery is enough to work during 2 days in SMS mode.
4. It accepts usual SIM card.

Cons:

1. Micro-USB-like connector is actually not micro-USB. If you loose the cable from the original package you cannot charge the device.
2. Originally the device is intended to use in car. I think the connector is quite unreliable to use it in constant vibration conditions.
3. If the battery becomes critically low during the device's operation and the device shutdowns incorrectly it forgets 6-digit password (even default 123456) so you are no longer can change any settings on it. The solution is to completely reset the device with special service command (for my clone it was reset123456) and set it up again from the beginning. There is no separate reset button on the device itself like in routers. The workaround is to switch it off with on/off button when the battery becomes low. Hmmm... You actually cannot determine when the battery becomes low; see the next item...
4. Yes, there is a special command (check) exists to check the device's state and it reports a data including battery state. Despite on the fact that I used it during several hours it says "battery: 100%". No comments.
5. If you use online GPS tracking service and set up device type as "TK-102" it is highly probable it will not work. It seems different clones use different message format so you need to determine which model will work in your case.
6. It sends GPRS data using 2KB packets. So it opens the GPRS connection, sends 2KB data, then closes GPRS connection. Russian mobile operators usually round up the data by 100KB bound, so 2KB data costs you exactly as 100KB data. In this case it is better to use unlimited tariff plan.

How to set-up
Below is a command list that I successfully used to setup the device to work with Orange GPS tracking service (I had to create Orange account, set up the device as IB-GT102 and enter its identifier which is written on sticker on its side).

• begin123456 (reset to defaults)
  
• check123456 (it should report its state)
• (call to it - it should report GPS location - only below open sky)
• adminip123456 193.193.165.167 20504 (setup Orange IP and port)
  
• apn123456 internet.mts.ru mts mts (setup APN, username, password; here is the data for Russian mobile operator MTS)
• gprs123456 (enable GPRS)
• time zone123456 4 (set your time zone, here is GMT+4)
• t030s***n123456 (report position once per 30 s)

If you want to use it in SMS mode (you call it - it sends SMS with GPS location as an answer) you actually need to use only three first command from the list above. Or just switch it back from GPRS mode to SMS mode using command sms123456 and enable per-request position report by command notn123456.
